I can´t access EAC by CAS name server

$

Hi people,

I´ve just installed my new Exchange 2013 SP1 environment in a new domain.

I´ve installed two Mailbox server and two Client Access servers, I´ve started the installation with two mailbox serves and to continue I´ve installed the Client Access servers. When I finished the installation in each server I restarted it.

Now, my problema is the Access to Exchange Administration Center.

I´m trying with https://servercas1.domain.local/ecp orhttps://servercas2.domain.local/ecp

In both cases, Internet explorer sais "this page can´t be displayed"

I´ve checked the Ecpvirtualdirectory in PowerShell, and internal url is correct: https://servercas1.domain.local/ecp in the first CAS andhttps://servercas2.domain.local/ecp in the second CAS.

I´ve tried Access by IP, but with the same result...

Finally, I´ve tried the Access with https://localhost/ecp and it Works!

But... I want to Access by name, no by localhost....

Someone knows why I can´t Access by name??

I understand the Access to EAC is only possible through the CAS, because in the Mailbox doesnt work it, right?

Thanks and Best regards.

After CU5 upgrade, can no longer manage "Apps for Outlook" - Could not locate Client Access Virtual Directory object with InternalUrl stamped for service

We recently upgraded our exchange 2013 servers to CU5. Now when we go to "Apps" under "Organization" in ECP or "Manage Apps" in OWA, we get the following error:

error
Could not locate Client Access Virtual Directory object with InternalUrl stamped for service. Last server checked: ExcServer

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Unknown e-mail address sending messages

Hello,

Recently I started using the following powershell command to delete unwanted emails from every member's mailbox belonging to a distribution group:

Get-DistributionGroupMember -Identity "GroupeOne" | Search-Mailbox -SearchQuery 'Subject:"Bad Email" AND (received:01/15/2015..01/15/2015)' -targetmailbox spamfilter@mydomain.com -targetfolder "DeletedSpam 2014-01-15" -loglevel full -deletecontent -Confirm:$false

This works extremely well and helps me analyze who sent, received and opened the message. In the case of a virus this is really helpful to know which computer I need to start the virus removal process on.

Anyways, my question is regarding an email address that appears in my log as having sent a message. This email address appears to be a UUID. The following is an example of what it looks like:

MicrosoftExchangesrmf46KxQ8fPv9n0g41CGg4Kyi4tDCCC@mydomain.com

I've searched using:

get-mailbox -identity MicrosoftExchangesrmf46KxQ8fPv9n0g41CGg4Kyi4tDCCC@mydomain.com

The return is false and no object could be found. I'm trying to figure out how an object that doesn't exist can send messages?

Any ideas?

We can not send email to Verizon.net from our domain teamwd.com on our SBS 2011 server. We can receive email from verizon.net email accounts but we can not send email from teamwd.com on our SBS 2011 Excahnge server. The client did get a new IP address due to getting a faster dsl connection. Not sure why we can not send a email to verizon.net. I asked verizon to add a ptr record on the connection but it did not help. Any help would be much appreciated.

retention time and 'removed' mailbox status

$

hi,

I have a couple of general questions:

1) How do I check the default retention time for removed mailboxes in exchange power shell ?  The reason I'm asking is I've marked for deletion a few user mailboxes. But it happened I had to re-enable accounts in AD as 2 of the employees returned to the company. The mailboxes seem to have connected automatically back since I re-enabled accounts in Active Directory. Not sure whether they are still in status 'marked for deletion' ?

2) How do I force to cancel the deletion if it happens to be the case ?

thank you.

Get Only Public Folders & Sub Folders with Calendars

I'm trying to think of a way to get only public folders with a calendar (even calendars in sub folders). The closest I've come so far to getting that list was by using the following command:

Get-PublicFolder -Identity \ -GetChildren | Where {$_.HasSubFolders -eq "True" -and $_.ParentPath -like "\*"} | select Identity

I know that I'm missing something.  Can anyone help out?

Unable to open shared mailboxes

$

I have given myself full access to 3 mailboxes, but when I try to open these using either open other mailbox in OWA or by adding the mailbox to my Outlook profile, it does not work. When I log on as these mailboxes there is no issue, everything is as it should be.

I initially used the ECP console to give myself access, but there is a known problem where this sometimes results in what I am seeing so I removed this access and logged onto one of the Exchange servers and used the Exchange Management shell to add myself using

Add-MailboxPermission -Identity JDoe -User 'testuser22' -AccessRights FullAccess -InheritanceType All -AutoMapping $false

Same result. I then moved the mailboxes to a different database as I have seen this resolve issues previously, no joy.

This is a concern as we have a process where anybody leaving the organization for any reason has their mailbox linked to their manager so they can deal with any open issues and incoming mail for a period of time, this is clearly not going to be possible if I am unable to give access to the manager.

Looking at the Delegates settings for these accounts I can clearly see I am listed as having full access yet it is not allowing me to open them unless I log in as the account.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Content Index State Crawling

We have an Exchange database that seems to always have a Content Index State that is crawling.  Some end users have complained about slow searches and indexing issues (which is expected).  We have stopped the search services and renamed the catalog directory in an effort to rebuild the search catalog, but it just goes right back to crawling.  The database is only about 300GB, so I don't think size is an issue.

Could it be there is some corruption on the database that is causing issues with the index catalog.  We have removed the database from the DAG and tried it as a stand alone database, with the same results.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Unable to populate forarding fields in the Exchange Control Panel

$

Using Exchange 2013 CU5 and are unable to configure forwarding in the Exchange Control Panel. We can find recipients from the Select Recipient dialog box, but the recipient's name never populates in the "Forward email to the following recipient field".

Same issue applies when selecting recipients for the Message Delivery Restrictions Accept From/Reject From fields.

I can populate the Message Size Restrictions field with a number, so the issue seems to be isolate to configuring the recipients field in any of the Mailbox Features tab.

I have no issue populating recipients in the Mailbox Delegation tab.

No issues configuring forwarding through PowerShell.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot would be nice!!

Exchange trying to resolve external e-mail addresses in local Active Directory

Hi

On all of my Mailbox Database servers, i'm getting the following warning in my Application log:

Level: Warning
Source: MSExchange Mid-Tier Storage
EventID: 2009
Message:
[Process:w3wp PID:6032 Thread:89] Error occurred while resolving the Active Directory object for from email address field: 'user@externaldomain.com'. Audit log will not be generated for this case. Exception details:
Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.ObjectNotFoundException: The Active Directory user wasn't found.
at Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.ExchangePrincipalFactory.FromProxyAddress(IRecipientSession session, String proxyAddress, RemotingOptions remotingOptions)
at Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.ExchangePrincipalFactory.FromProxyAddress(ADSessionSettings adSettings, String proxyAddress, RemotingOptions remotingOptions)
   at Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.ExchangePrincipal.FromProxyAddress(ADSessionSettings adSettings, String proxyAddress)
   at Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.COWAudit.GetSubmitEffectiveMailboxOwner(MailboxSession session, CallbackContext callbackContext)

I have three Exchange Server 2013 MBX/CAS servers, and two Exchange Server 2013 Edge Transport servers in front of them.

As mentioned earlier, this warning is on all three of the MBX/CAS servers. The external e-mail address vary.

I've used the Get-MessageTrackingLog to debug, and I can see that this error comes when an internal user sends a "Meeting Forward Notification" to an external e-mail address. Exchange tries to resolve the external e-mail address in Active Directory and throws this warning, for some reason.

Is there anyone that knows how to fix this?

Correct syntax to set "send as" permissions through Powershell

$

Hello,

A colleague of mine gave me a Powershell command to set "send as" permissions on a mailbox. His syntax is the following:

Add-ADPermission -Identity UserBeingGrantedPermission -User UserWhoseMailboxIsBeingConfigured -ExtendedRights 'Send-As'

In that example the user mentioned after "-User" is the one who's mailbox is being configured. Easy enough. Earlier Technet articles also use this syntax.

However, I stumbled across the following article. Which clearly says:

This example grants Send As permissions forAaron Painter to Terry Adams's mailbox.

Add-ADPermission -Identity "Terry Adams" -User AaronPainter -AccessRights ExtendedRight -ExtendedRights "Send As"

In this example "-User" is not the one mailbox that is being configured but the person that gets the rights.

So who is right? Technet or Technet?

Exchange 2013 Online mode slow performance

$

Hello,

We recently moved mailboxes (180 or so) from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.  We are noticing that Outlook navigation seems to be very slow compared to the last server.  Changing folder views, switching from Inbox to Calendar, Deleting items, etc.  Also we used to be able to send 40MB HTML emails very quickly.  This now takes about 5 min just to open a reply. (These are tripwire reports.)  Most users are using Outlook in Online mode on the new server and were using Online mode on the old server

Environment: Exchange 2013 SP1 on Server 2012r2 Standard (6 cores 24 gigs of RAM, VMWare VM.)  Old server is Exchange 2007 8.3.348.2 on Server 2008x64 Standard SP2 (8 cores 12 gigs of RAM. Physical.)

I have a ticket open with MS but didn't really get anywhere after 9 hours yesterday.

Thanks.

Unable to create or edit AD (mail) contacts in address book

$

Hi!

I recently imported quite a list of contacts from an old CRM application into Exchange. All entries are nicely created in domain.local\company\location\Contacts. All fields are visible in Outlook under All Address Lists\All Contacts.

As we have a small company, just a few users, I want to give most of them the rights to create and update entries in the All Contacts folder, just as they were used to in the old app.

I started by creating role groups following this article: http://blogs.technet.com/b/rmilne/archive/2013/08/07/creating-rbac-role-to-delegate-contact-management.aspx

I created an Admin Role group named Contact Administration, which contains the required Members, and I assigned two role groups to this group: Contact_Management, which is based on the Mail Recipient Creation parent group, and Contact_Management_2, which is based on the Mail Recipient parent group. The Write Scope is: domain.local\company\location\Contacts.

Because this didn't result in anyone being able to update the contacts, I also created a group in Active Directory and delegated control on the contacts OU to this group, even though I think this doesn't add to the desired result (as it indeed didn't).

What am I missing here? Any help will be greatly appreciated!
